it's a strong black mark in my mind to know that one day myself and all of my friends will have some form of cancer, most likely breast cancer. this piece is about the highest and the lowest times in our life. it is a push and pull. the best and the worst connected to one another by fishing line and a little sharp hook. birds and wings and diving goldfish, there are no more opposite of creatures. they live in physically opposite worlds yet their movement is the same. the great highs and deep lows are necessary to keep our hearts recognition of beauty alive...they are our vertical bookends. (thank you sam.)

(the keep a breast foundation is a fantastic program, and i'm honoured to be a part of the 2009 show. a plaster cast is taken of women who have had breast cancer. each cast is given to a local artist to paint and create for a show that will feature the casts together. they then are autioned off and all the proceeds go towards breast cancer research. it's a beautiful thing... go world.)
